Correctional Officer Course Starts Aug. 4

           The Public Safety Division at Gulf Coast Community College will offer the Correctional Officer Basic Standards Course at the Gulf/Franklin Center from Aug. 4 to Nov. 10.

            The program will offer certification training to persons seeking to become employed as a correctional officer in the State of Florida.  Students enrolled in the course will study correctional operations, legal issues, interpersonal skills, first aid, CPR, defensive tactics and firearms.

            During various classes, recruiters from the Florida Department of Corrections and Corrections Corporation of America will be in attendance.

            Applications and registration packets are now available at the Gulf/Franklin Center and must be submitted prior to registration. Registration for the class will be held July 28 to August 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Gulf/Franklin Center. Orientation will be held Aug. 4 and 5 from 8 a.m. to noon. Classes will begin Aug. 12, and be held Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
