Apalachicola storage units vandalized

Sometime Sunday night, several units at the Apalachicola Self Storage facility, at Market Street and Avenue F, had the padlocks cut off, according to owner Bobby Siprell, who replaced them with temporary locks the following morning and notified renters of the incident.

Apalachicola Police Chief Bobby Varnes said the vandal left a single lock at the site, with the rest presumably stolen.  Varnes said it was unusual that the locks had been taken.

Grayson Shepard said a compound bow and possibly some other items were taken from his locker. He said the padlock he put on his unit was inadequate, and easily cut with bolt cutters. During the four years he has rented a storage unit this is his first break-in, he said.
