Dr. Photis Nichols celebrated his 90th birthday on Saturday with party thrown by his family at his home in Queen’s Harbor in Jacksonville. Nichols, who was born Jan. 6, 1923 in Apalachicola, served as the town’s family physician for more than 50 years, before he relocated to Jacksonville a decade ago. He continues to practice medicine as a volunteer with the Volunteers in Medicine program in downtown Jacksonville. Nichols and his wife Frosso, who attended the party, have been married for close to 60 years. The Nichols’ son Constantine helped cater the party, which featured crab cakes and braised short ribs, topped off with baklava and carrot cake.
