Francis Levere Ponder, of Pensacola, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at home.
Born March 4, 1944, in Panama City to Charles O. Ponder and Alma M. Ponder, Francis resided in Apalachicola until graduation from Chapman High School in 1962. His military career in the Navy spanned 27 years, from which he retired as senior chief petty officer in 1991.
He was married 42 years to Lucia Rexach of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Francis is survived by his brother Charles T. Ponder (Myra), Apalachicola; nephew Charles “Chuck” T. Ponder, Jr. (Lisa), Attapulgus, Ga.; niece Georgiana Manning (Kenneth P), Washington, NC; three great-nieces and one great-nephew.
There will be two memorial services, the first in Apalachicola on Friday, Oct. 18, at Kelley Funeral Home, 149 Avenue H. Visitation is at 2 p.m., memorial service at 3 p.m., and reception at 4 p.m. in Benedict Hall, at 79 6th Street, next to Trinity Episcopal Church.
The second memorial service will be held in Pensacola on Friday, Oct. 25, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road. Visitation at 2 p.m. CST, memorial service at 3 p.m. CST, and reception at 4 p.m. CST.
