Lucia Rexach Ponder, of Pensacola, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at home.



Born Feb. 11, 1938, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she graduated from Ramon Power High School in San Juan, and then studied business administration at Academy Catholic in Puerto Rico.



Lucia was a secretary to Governor Rafael Hernandez Colon, as his personal adviser. In 1971 Lucia met and married Francis Ponder while he was stationed in Puerto Rico. They were married 42 years.



Lucia is survived by her sisters, Maria Esther Rexach and Carlotta Rexach, both from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Diana Rexach (New York City); one brother, Carlos Benito Rexach (Chicago, Ill.); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially Sophia Albea (Houston, Texas), Vivian Sanchez and Alex Rexach, both of San Juan, Puerto Rico.



There will be two memorial services, the first in Apalachicola on Friday, Oct. 18, at Kelley Funeral Home, 149 Avenue H. Visitation is at 2 p.m., memorial service at 3 p.m., and reception at 4 p.m. in Benedict Hall, at 79 Sixth Street, next to Trinity Episcopal Church.



The second memorial service will be held in Pensacola on Friday, Oct. 25, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road. Visitation at 2 p.m. CST, memorial service at 3 p.m. CST, and reception at 4 p.m. CST.
