Students in the First Baptist Christian School joined with members of the congregation on May 9 to mark the National Day of Prayer at the flagpole at Apalachicola’s Riverfront Park. The service was led by Bob Russell, second from left, a retired pastor from Michigan who has been filling in as preacher at First Baptist Church while he is down for the winter. Russell and Donnie Crum, pictured second from right, next to former Mayor Sandy Howze, at far right, are active with Liberty Ministries, an outreach to inmates at the Bay City Work Camp. The gathering listened as Russell read passages from the Bible, imploring the nation to return to its roots as a godly and prayerful country. The prayer service closed with everyone joining hands in a moment of silent prayer.
