Last week the Times ran this picture with a feature article about the Dixie Theatre. In the cutline, the ticket agent is incorrectly identified as Joyce Counts; she was, in fact, Eunice Proctor Counts. Last week, she related tells this story about how this photograph came to be.
In 1947, when Counts was 15 years old, A man drove up in a car in front of the theatre and yelled "Hey Peaches. Everybody turned around and looked at him. He took the photo and drove away. He had a professional camera he was using. Weeks later he mailed the photo to the Times. It's been circulating ever since.
