Roland Lamar Whiddon, 89, of Tallahassee, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6 at Evergreen Cemetery in Carrabelle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308 or Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, FL 32064.
A native of Chula, Ga.., and former resident of Carrabelle, he had resided in Tallahassee since 1953. Roland was owner-operator of Whiddon Concrete Construction, lifetime member of the Tallahassee Optimist and Elks Club and was a member of First Baptist Church of Carrabelle where he was a member of the board of deacons.
He was also a U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by a niece and nephew, Patricia and Tommie Allen of Jacksonville.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mena Wathen Whiddon; his father, Thomas Whiddon and mother Clara Cook Whiddon; and sisters, Elva Lee Allen and Juanita Hanna.
Beggs Funeral Home, Apalachee Parkway Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
